The last phase of IBTO-WHO agreement on developing a plan for External Quality Assessment Scheme (EQAS) for Sudanese National Blood Service (SNBTS) was performed successfully.
The primary purpose of this agreement was to improve and standardize laboratory diagnosis by auditing the effectiveness of the internal quality assurance systems.
To perform the first phase of this agreement and make field analysis, two Iranian experts from IBTO visited SNBTS in January 2013.
Following to this visit, five Medical Laboratory Technicians who are key blood bank staff in Khartoum came to Iran on 27 April, 2014 to be trained on quality assurance.
In the last phase, 20 staff of SNBTS were trained in Sudan on the supervision of two Iranian experts including Dr. Sedigheh Amini, (Deputy of Quality Assurance & Quality Control) & Ms. Mina. Moghtadaie (Expert of Quality Control Department) in May 2014.
“Two major goals of this phase were to prepare external quality control samples with the participation of Sudanese laboratory staff and train on how to use these samples.” Said Dr. Amini.
External Quality Assessment Scheme offer a valuable management tool because they enable laboratory personnel to compare their laboratory results with those obtained in other laboratories when the same material is examined.
“The whole program was held fruitfully. We are looking forward to reflect Iranian’s recommendations in our next forthcoming agreement which is due to conclude by the end of 2014.” Said. Dr. Anshu Banerjee, WHO representative in Sudan.
