Safe blood for saving mothers: A wish that fulfilled in Iran
Every day, 800 women die due to pregnancy and childbirth- related hemorrhage globally.
Message of IBTO Managing Director in commemoration of WBDD:

Every day, 800 women die due to pregnancy and childbirth- related hemorrhage globally.  It is undeniable that the loss of the mother as a main pillar of the family would pose a great deal of harm to the infant, other members of the family and society as a whole. Many of these damages could be prevented if the patients had timely access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products.

Iran reached 100% voluntary non-remunerated blood donation in 2007. Contribution of more than 2,000,000 Iranians to altruistic act of blood donation annually, who more than half of them are regular blood donors, has led Iran to be completely self-sufficient especially in term of meeting mothers’ needs. As we are approaching to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO), we are pleased to celebrate reaching 40 millions blood collections by the end of 2014 at the same time.
