IBTO plans to reduce blood usage
In a seminar on “Patient Blood Management” hosted by Tehran Blood Transfusion Center, blood transfusion experts and clinicians discussed the recent developments on bloodless surgeries and patient blood management.

In a seminar on “Patient Blood Management” hosted by Tehran Blood Transfusion Center, blood transfusion experts and clinicians discussed the recent developments on bloodless surgeries and patient blood management. The seminar is jointly organized by the Iranian Society of Transfusion Medicine ,Iranian Medical Council and Iranian High Institute for Research and Education in Transfusion Medicine.

Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) entered to a new era, in which we plan to reduce irrational transfusion and increase the quality and efficiency of blood and blood products.” said Dr. Pourfathollah, IBTO Managing Director.

This is the first year of implementing programs on patient blood management at IBTO.  To this end, we have to optimize the care of the patients who need transfusion and prevent unnecessary blood transfusion.” He added.

Transfusion medicine importance in the patient outcomes, patient blood Management and blood component alternatives, the impact of inventory and patient management on blood utilization, guidelines for transfusion and role of thromboelastometry in patient blood management were among topics presented at seminar.
