Opening Ceremony of Joint IRETM-UPEC Diploma Course on Management of Blood Transfusion Medicine
The opening ceremony of postgraduate diploma course on “Management of Blood Transfusion Medicine” was held at Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization on 17th of April 2017. The course is jointly organized by Iranian High Institute for Research & Education on Transfusion Medicine (IRETM), University Paris-Est Creteil (UPEC) and French Blood Service (EFS).
The authorities of IBTO , the representatives of Ministry of Health, the Attaché for scientific and university cooperation of France Embassy in Iran and the current students and teachers of the course attended the event.
The ceremony was started by display of a video-clip introducing the activities and programs of IRETM.
Dr. Fariba Seighali, the Director of International Affairs Department, briefed participants on the background of joint collaboration between IBTO and EFS . “Our joint collaboration with France trace back to 15 years ago when IBTO Managing Director visited EFS in 2002,” she said.
“Since then, several agreements have been made between both organizations in order to promote scientific and educational collaboration. As a result, 30 faculty members and experts of IBTO attended diffrent short-term training courses in France and several scientific seminars have been organized jointly on related subjects to blood transfusion," she added. “While establishing a joint inter-university degree program has been on the agenda of both institutions since 2007, the final agreement was reached in 2016 in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between IRETM and UPEC.”
Dr. Mahtab Magsudlu, the Vice President of IRETM gave a short presentation to introduce the course and its objectives to the participants. “The curriculum of the course has been formulated jointly with the special focus on local needs”, she said. “The 7 -month long course addresses the authorities and professionals working in blood services on variety of subjects including regulatory and quality systems, immunology, blood groups, collection and storage of blood and components, donor processing, patient blood management, complications of transfusion, cellular therapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,” she added.
Dr. Magsuldu stated that the faculty members of IRETM and invited professors from UPEC will jointly teach the 6-module course. "The course is planned to admitt international students for 2018-2019 academic year", she said.
Dr. Ali Akbar Pourfathollah, the IBTO Managing Director delivered the final remarks on “the importance of international collaboration in research and education”.
“We are living in a world where the globalization has rendered the national borders irrelevant. To achieve the new scientific and educational resources, there is no way but having a dynamic and effective communications in international arena,” he said. “Realizing the importance of this new approach, IBTO has promoted its scientific and educational capabilities through developing of professional communication and collaboration with other countries and international organizations”, he added.
Dr. Pourfathollah countinued "Holding 5 international conferences and 14 workshops as well as being designated as WHO Collaborating Center on Research & Training on Blood Safety are part of the IBTO’s efforts to achieve the above goal." He mentioned that the present diploma course is a turning point in the way of stengthening the educational capabilities of IRETM and will provide a unique opportunity for other countries in the region to benefit from its advantages.
Finally, a welcome video prepared by the moderators of the course in EFS and UPEC was displayed.
