As workshops on "Voluntary Blood Donor Recruitment" and "Quality System" for Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member Countries kicked off in Tehran, Dr. Hassan Abolghasemi , IBTO Managing Director, described these workshops as a good forum for exchanging information and sharing experiences in his inaugural speech.
Workshops on "Voluntary Donor Recruitment" and "Quality System" for ECO Member Countries were held in Tehran on 10-12 May, 2010.
Dr. Abolghasemi expressed his appreciation for the efforts of ECO Secretariat to co organize such meetings and added that "this is a scientific opportunity proposed by IBTO after the first Meeting of the Heads of Blood Transfusion Organizations of ECO Member States held in I.R of Iran."
"Having benefited from a centralized blood transfusion system since four decades ago, IBTO has achieved valuable improvements in the field of blood donor recruitment and retention. These achievements also have been accomplished by a continuous endeavor toward utilizing scientific and standard methods, religious beliefs, cultures and civilization of Iranians." he added.
"Due to same culture and religion in the region, ECO Member Countries have an opportunity to share their experiences in order to reach 100% Voluntary non- remunerated blood donation and increase the rate of blood donation in their countries." he said.
In his welcoming remarks Amb. Hassan Taherian, ECO Deputy Secretary General, on behalf of ECO expressed his happiness toward mounting cooperation in the field of blood transfusion in the ECO region for which contribution by the IBTO is a great source of help.
He also thanked Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization for the excellent arrangements made for these workshops and the warm hospitality extended to the participants.
