EMRO with the collaboration of IBTO and IRETM published The First Regional Status Report on Blood Safety and Availability
Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) and Iranian High Institute for Research & Education in Transfusion Medicine (IRETM) as a WHO Collaborating Center on Research & Training for Blood Safety in collaboration with Eastern Mediterranean Region Office (EMRO) and WHO’s headquarters prepared the first regional report of blood safety and availability. A team from IBTO’s professionals and faculty members ofIRETM worked hardly on the project for almost six months.
The report which has been published on-line on the website in of World Health Organization (WHO) in August 2017 gives a general overview on the situation of blood safety and availability in the region based on the analysis of GDBS questionnaire collected in 2013.
The status Report serves a baseline purpose to benchmark the expected progress of the implementation of the Strategy on Safety and Availability of Blood in the Region.
Additionally, Iran in collaboration with EMRO performed an extensive literature review on peer reviewed publications from the countries in the Region over the past ten years. The purpose of this research is to gain information on the applied scientific research as an indicator for progress and improvement.
